What size Foley catheter is used for an adult?
For a standard adult, 14–16 Fr covers most cases (16–18 Fr in men, 14–16 Fr in women); step up to 18–24 Fr for haematuria, clots or after prostate surgery, usually 3-way for irrigation. What is the difference between a 2-way and a 3-way Foley?
The 2-way has one lumen to drain urine and one to inflate the balloon — the standard for retention and general drainage. The 3-way adds a third lumen for continuous bladder irrigation, indicated after prostate surgery (TURP) or in haematuria with clots, and always in larger sizes (18–24 Fr).
When do you use a Coudé (Tiemann) tip?
When a straight tip cannot pass — typically in older men with an enlarged prostate, urethral stricture or false passage. It is inserted with the curve pointing up. For routine catheterisation and in women the straight (Nelaton) tip is the first choice.

Edaochi Medical's PVC Foley urinary catheter is a core consumable for any hospital, clinic and ER — used for urinary retention, surgery, ICU urine-output monitoring and long-term care. When you order, the decision comes down to four variables: size (Fr), tip, number of ways and balloon volume.
Size and colour code

Tip, ways and balloon
Straight (Nelaton) tip for routine use; Coudé/Tiemann tip to negotiate an enlarged prostate. 2-way for standard drainage; 3-way for continuous irrigation after prostate surgery or with clots. Balloon 5 ml (paediatric), 10 ml (adult) or 30 ml (haemostasis/traction). Inflate with sterile water only.
