Which gauge of the XY600 is best for bone marrow?
Available in 11G, 14G and 16G. For trephine bone marrow biopsy (iliac crest or sternum), 11G is recommended — it yields a higher-quality 20 mm core for histopathology. 14G and 16G are more often used for soft-tissue biopsy such as liver or kidney. See our bone marrow biopsy needle guide.
Is the XY600 sterile and single use?
Yes. Each needle is individually EO-sterilised with a sterilisation indicator. It is single use: do not reuse or re-sterilise, as the automatic firing mechanism is not guaranteed after the first use.
Does the automatic mechanism require ultrasound guidance?
The automatic mechanism can be used under ultrasound guidance or by direct palpation for superficial biopsies. For liver or kidney biopsy, real-time ultrasound guidance is recommended to reduce complications — see our ultrasound needle guide.
