The introducer needle is the first link of the Seldinger technique: it punctures the vessel and the guidewire enters through its lumen. Thin wall — maximum lumen per outer gauge, because the wire must pass with clearance — and a sharp bevel that penetrates without tearing. Made in 18G × 6.5 and 7.0 cm for adult femoral access and 20G × 3.8 cm for fine and radial access, with hubs in green and clear: hub colour is the code by which the table tells gauges apart at a glance, which is why we keep the conventional colours rather than moulding whatever resin is loaded. The Y-type version adds a side port on the hub (pink, 18G): a syringe stays connected — aspirating or injecting — while the wire enters the main channel, with no disconnection at the critical moment of flashback. Our introducer sets already include their needle; this page is the loose reference for replenishment, own trays and assemblers.

Frequently Asked Questions — Introducer Puncture Needles — 18G & 20G, Y-Type

What does the Y-type version add?

The side port keeps the syringe connected while the wire enters the main channel. In the classic technique the syringe must be disconnected the moment blood flashes back — exactly when the needle can move out of the lumen. With the Y, aspiration confirmation and wire passage coexist without disconnection.

Why does the thin wall matter?

It defines which wire passes. At equal outer gauge, thin wall leaves more lumen: a thin-wall 18G takes the 0.038" wire with clearance. And at smaller outer gauge for equivalent lumen, less trauma at the puncture point.

Does hub colour mean anything?

It is the visual code by which the table tells gauges apart without reading labels. We keep the conventional colours (green, clear, pink for the Y) precisely because a non-conventional colour causes wrong picks from the tray. Custom colours only as explicit OEM.

Don't the introducer sets already include these?

Yes — every radial or femoral set carries its needle. This loose reference exists for replenishment, for the hospital's own puncture trays and for assemblers, who receive it in bulk through the OEM line.

Full Description — Introducer Puncture Needles — 18G & 20G, Y-Type

The first link of the chain

Everything nests behind this needle: its gauge decides which wire passes (0.038" through 18G, 0.021" through 20G), and the wire decides the rest.

What the Y-type changes

Classic technique disconnects the syringe at flashback — exactly when the needle can slip out of the lumen. The Y's side port keeps aspiration connected while the wire enters the main channel.

Hub colour is a convention, not decoration

Tables pick by colour under time pressure. We hold the conventional colours; custom colours only as explicit OEM.

What to confirm before ordering

- Gauge × length split; Y-type share - Loose sterile boxes or OEM bulk for trays
